Production flight tests of the latest refueling aircraft IL-78M-90A are scheduled for July
Production flight tests of the newest refueling aircraft IL-78M-90A are scheduled for July. The stage of ground workings continues – the inspection of the fuel system and the tightness of the fuel tanks has already completed.
«Now the IL-78M-90A aircraft, built on the Ulyanovsk enterprise JSC «Aviastar-SP», passes the ground tests, which includes, in particular, checking the fuel system. After their completion, the tanker will be sent for painting, and then, presumably in July, transferred to PJSC «IL » to perform production flight tests. Everything goes on properly, there are no backlogs from the schedule», – said the First Deputy General Director of PJSC «Ilyushin Aviation Complex» Pavel Cherenkov.
The head of the flight test station of the JSC «Aviastar-SP» Yuri Kapsha explained, that the fuel system of the aircraft is used to supply the main engines and an auxiliary power plant with fuel: «All fuel tanks, including fuselage, pumping processes, fuel consumption measurements and etc. had checked. All tests were successful, there are no deviations from the specified parameters».
During the stage of ground tests, the engine race, the comprehensive test of the landing gear will be completed. Although, the electromagnetic compatibility of all aircraft systems will be checked.
The new refueling aircraft was created on the basis of the military transport aircraft IL-76MD-90A. The upgraded aircraft is equipped with four engines of the new generation PS-90A-76. Control and navigation complexes are fully renewed and also the «glass cockpit» was implemented at the aircraft, what allows to decrease the pressure on the crew and increase safety of flights.
IL-78M-90A will allow simultaneous refueling of two front-line aircraft. Refueling of long range and special aviation aircraft is possible from the tail aggregate. If IL-78М-90А is positioned on the ground it can fill up to four aircraft simultaneously.
IL-78М-90А can be used as military and transport aircraft. Re-equipment of the aircraft won’t require a large amount of works and is possible in the conditions of an aerodrome. In case of necessity the aircraft can be fitted with fire-fighting equipment.
