«Ilyushin Aviation Complex» OJSC congratulates Military Transport Aviation personnel on the professional day
Military Transport Aviation is a part of Airspace Forces of the Russian Federation. Its initial main combat mission was airdropping. On August 2, 1930, the first mass airdrop operation was demonstrated in the frame of training near Voronezh (lately, this date became the Day of Airborne Forces). The first experimental Airborne Forces Detachment of the Leningrad Military District performed this airdrop. Date of completion of detachment organisation, June 1, 1931, is the date of the Military Transport Aviation establishment. Alongside with airdropping, the detachment worked on such tasks as air transportation of forces, combat equipment and military cargo under special conditions.
During the Soviet-Finnish War of 1939-1940, the Soviet Air Forces gained its first experience in such aviation operations as air transportation of forces and military cargo, as well as injured personnel evacuation under combat conditions. DB-3 and Il-4 bomber aircraft were used in special airdrop-transport tasks in pre-war and the Great Patriotic War times. Special-purpose Il-12D and Il-14T military-transport aircraft were developed in post-war times.
In 1971 the first Soviet jet-propelled military-transport aircraft - Il-76 - performed its flight. The aircraft was developed under the supervision of an outstanding aircraft designer, Genrikh Vasilyevich Novozhilov, and became the main Military Transport Aviation aircraft shortly after. Up-to-date the aircraft has been maintaining its status for more than 45 years.
«Ilyushin Aviation Complex» OJSC has developed modernized Il-76MD-M and Il-76MD-90A aircraft. At present the company is working on construction of the test light-weight military-transport aircraft - Il-112V, as well as on development of the medium-weight military-transport aircraft codenamed Il-214. «Ilyushin Aviation Complex» OJSC specialists are proud of being creators of the military-transport aircraft of the new generation for the Russian Armed Forces.
