70th anniversary of OJSC «Il» test-pilot Alexander KomarovToday is the 70th anniversary of honoured test-pilot of the Russian Federation and Hero of the Russian Federation Alexander Komarov.
He was born on October 5, 1945 in Leningrad (St. Petersburg). After secondary school he entered Kachinsk Air Force Academy named after A. Myasnikov. From 1963 till 1973 he served in the USSR Air Force.
From 1973 he worked as a test-pilot at Flight Research institute, and then Tbilisi Aircraft Factory named after Dimitrov. Carried out tests of more than 460 MiG-21 and Su-25 production aircraft and their modifications.
In 1990 he became OJSC «Il» test-pilot. He participated in testing of the Il-76, Il-86, Il-114, Il-103, Il-78MF, Il-96-300, Il-96M, Il-96T. He approved himself especially during testing of the Il-114, Il-96, Il-103 in limit conditions and beyond these limits, during failures of various systems, equipment and aircraft engines.
In 2001 he carried out government test-flight program on the wide-body Il-96-300 for instrumental landing. He participated in flight demonstrations on the Il-96, Il-114, Il-76 in Russia and abroad.
At present he continues his flight-testing work as a 1st-class test-pilot at OJSC «Il».
For his courage and bravery demonstrated during testing, development and mastering of new aviation equipment, Alexander Komarov was awarded the title of Hero of the Russian Federation.
Throughout his long creative work in the sphere of flight tests and research of new aircraft equipment, facilitating progress of the Russian aviation, Alexander Komarov was given the title of Honoured test-pilot of the Russian Federation three times.
