Fleet air of Russian Pacific Fleet successfully mastered upgraded antisubmarine IL-38N aircraft

Upgraded by Ilyushin Aviation Complex antisubmarine IL-38N aircraft entered service of Russian Pacific Fleet. The aircraft are situated at bases Elizovo (Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky) and Nikolaevka (Primorsky Krai). Manpower of the bases was trained for the new type of aircraft and started flights from the bases airdromes. The retraining was carried out in Russian Air Force’s combat employment and retraining centre of Russian Navy (Yeisk), where the first upgraded by Ilyushin Aviation Complex antisubmarine IL-38N aircraft is operated.

According to Air Chief of Pacific Fleet Colonel Sergey Gennadievich Rasskazov, the upgrade, consisted of implementation to the aircraft of a new target search and track system Novella-P-38, has considerably extended the scope of tasks solved by the aircraft and their combat capacities. According to him, search facilities of the aircraft were quite improved and extended several times in comparison with base IL-38. Now there is an opportunity of applying of radio sonobuoy of new generation, and signals intelligence station was included into equipment of the aircraft, as well as thermal camera, working in infrared visible spectrum.

By means of new target search and track system the modernized aircraft can successfully solve tasks of patrolling, search and liquidation of submarines, radio electric supervision of surface and air targets, mining, search and rescue of people in the sea and ecological monitoring of water surface.

Ilyushin Aviatin Complex has completed execution of state contract for repair and serial modernization of the first lot of antisubmarine IL-38 aircraft of Russian Air Fleet Navy to the level of IL-38N. A new contract for modernization of the next lot of antisubmarine IL-38 aircraft of Russian Air Fleet Navy to the level of IL-38N was concluded with the Ministry of defense of the Russian Federation.
