OJSC “Il” conducts a ceremony of naming the fifth upgraded Il-38N MA of the Russian Navy after Fyodor Zolotukhin and transfer of the aircraft to customer

30 June 2015
OJSC “Il” completes the execution of government contract for repair and serial upgrade of the first batch of anti-submarine Il-38 aircraft of Naval Aviation of the Russian Navy up to the Il-38N.

A total of five aircraft have been upgraded. They have been equipped with new “Novella-P-38” search-and-track complex, which significantly enlarged the range of missions, available to these aircraft and their combat capabilities — this is a strong contribution of OJSC “Il”, United Aircraft Corporation and JSC “CSPA “Leninetz” to the improvement of defence potential of our country. With this new search-and-track system the upgraded aircraft can patrol, locate and destroy submarines (with a larger array of weapons as compared to the standard Il-38), carry out electronic surveillance over surface and airborne targets, mine, search and rescue people at sea and conduct ecologic monitoring of water surface.

In coordination with Naval Aviation Command the fifth upgraded aircraft has been named after Fyodor Zolotukhin, chief designer of “Novella-P-38” search-and-track complex, fitted on the Il-38N.

On June 30, 2015 in Zhukovsky the official ceremony of naming the aircraft after Fyodor Zolotukhin and its transfer to the customer took place.

The ceremony was attended by M. I. Kashtan — member of panel of Military-Industrial Commission of the Russian Federation, Chairman of Aircraft Engineering Council of the Russian Federatoin; S. V. Velmozhking — OJSC “Il” General Director; V. G. Vvedensky — PJSC UAC Deputy Director of Direction for Special Aviation Programs; I. S. Kozhin — Chief of Naval Aviation of the Russian Navy, Major General, Hero of Russia; K. A. Sidorenko — General Director of JSC “CSPA “Leninetz”; Fyodor Zolotukhin’s son Artyom Fyodorovich.

In his speech at the ceremony S. Velmozhkin said that the Ministry of Defence is interested in further modernization of the anti-submarine Il-38 up to Il-38N and signed a contract with OJSC “Il” for upgrade of another batch of aircraft.

M. Kashtan emphasized that the event symbolizes strengthening of relations between customer, represented by the Ministry of Defence, and the industry. He added that the fact of naming this aircraft after chief designer of “Novella-P-38” search-and-track complex indicates the acknowledgement of services of Russian designers.
