First series IL-76MD to reach end production stage – final assembly
4 October 2013, the first IL-76MD-90A flight model, designed by Ilyushin Aviation Complex took its first demo flight in the presence of Russian president Vladimir Putin. The aircraft received the most favorable reviews.
‘What we have seen today, the event we witnessed is not simply a takeoff of a newly revived IL-76 aircraft. Actually, it’s an absolutely new airplane, upgraded at more than 70 percent. The result is a fundamentally new plane with higher reliability, range, fuel-efficiency and lifting capacity’ – Mr. Putin said at the conference on planning the State order of Russian aircraft.
By now, the plane has finished flight tests and is undergoing the first stage of joint state testing on the Ministry of Defense program. The scheduled program is expected to be completed in 2014.
IL-76MD-90A flight model has already participated in MAKS-2013 flight program and was featured to the public at static exhibition.
United Aircraft Corporation president Mikhail Pogosian qualified IL-76MD-90A designing and production program realization as a great benchmark in company strategy implementation.
The production of new Russian heavy transport aircraft is now set up at the facilities of Ulyanovsk plant Aviastar-SP. The first series plane is running the end stage of final assembly. For the second one, unit mounting is underway, component assembly is carried out for the third one. Other series planes are currently on different production stages at Aviaster-SP.
It is scheduled to deliver the first transport planes to clients In 2014. At the moment, Aviastar-SP capacities make possible to produce 6-8 aircraft a year. By 2018, the enterprise is expected to reach the capacity of producing 18 aircraft kits per year. According to the arms program for 2016-2025, it is set out to deliver 39 IL-76-MD-90A aircraft to Russian Air Force.
